Toku Time Sit-Rep 6-27-18

Time to answer some questions I’ve gotten recently concerning the show and Yours Truly.

Hey Toku Faithful. Sorry things have been all quiet on the review front but there’s a simple explanation for that. For the past few months I’ve tried to post to casting calls and classifieds to find an actress to play a part for a future review storyline I’m working on. Sadly I cannot get any to audition for the part for various reasons (and yes I’ve offered to pay them). So I think I’m going to have to pull the plug on that plan for now. Time to answer some FAQs.

WHERE’S THE AKIBARANGER SEASON 2 REVIEW?

The script is ready and I even shot a good chunk of it but to my surprise I actually won an AkibaRed jacket (the streamlined team jacket the new guy Takuma wore, not the one Nobuo wears). Huge thanks to Sentai Jackets for picking Yours Truly. I never win anything. So now I’ve decided to re-shoot the whole thing for obvious reasons. Expect that review sometime in July.

WHAT’S THE NEXT REVIEW AFTER THAT?

That would be Kamen Rider 555 The Movie: Paradise Lost. This review will continue the story that I hinted at during the end of the Ohranger review.

IS HAL GONE FOR GOOD?

Yes, my old A.I HAL is dead. He’s not coming back and I don’t know if I’ll get a replacement or something new.

ARE YOU GOING TO POWER MORPHICON AGAIN?

Indeed I am. This will be the fourth Power Morphicon I’m attending and thankfully this time I won’t be alone. My Ranger Recap co-host Matty Jay will be coming too. This will be his first Morphicon so expect a plethora of videos and coverage of the convention. Can’t wait to meet all my awesome fans there and yes, I will be cosplaying again.

WHAT ARE YOU COSPLAYING AS?

A couple things actually, including a secret one that you’ll have to be there to see. But I can tell you I’m working on a Banjou Ryuuga cosplay from Kamen Rider Build. Huge thanks to Ractii for buying me the Evolt Driver that made it possible.  I’m also planning a Stinger from Uchuu Sentai Kyuranger cosplay if the jacket arrives in time and I’m hunting for a Seiza Blaster as well. I may or may not include a Ryoutarou from Kamen Rider Den-O cosplay now that I have my CSM Den-O belt. I haven’t decided yet. I’m also mulling over if I want to do my Geki Jumonji/Gavan Type G again or save that for another con. We’ll see.

ARE YOU GOING TO ANY OTHER CONVENTIONS THIS YEAR?

Yep. I’ll be attending both Morphinominal Expo and RangerStop again just like last  year. I’ll have a table at both those conventions so make sure to come say hi if you’re going to them.

ARE YOU EVER GOING TO START POSTING STUFF TO YOUTUBE AGAIN?

Every day I grapple with the idea of giving YouTube another shot but often it’s a lot of stress and very little payoff. I’ve thought of re-editing all my old reviews and just having still photos over the old audio of me talking so I can slip past YouTube’s BS copyright system but if my Kong: Skull Island review and a few of my WHITWOT’s can get content ID’ed when I use no copyrighted material whatsoever it seems like a futile gesture. Trying to repeat the same action and expecting a different reaction is surely a sign of madness after all.

But I know several of you don’t like watching my stuff on Vimeo and I sympathize but since Vidme shut down (and I miss them so much) I’m cornered. But if you want it bad enough, make your voice heard. E-mail, comment, tweet me, let me know you want it back. I just would like the payoff to be worth it. I have my Patreon but being able to monetize my YT videos (and making an extra yet minuscule amount of money) would be nice.

IS THE TOKU MINUTEMEN STILL A THING?

I think I pulled the trigger on that too early. I thought I had all the means to make it a stable thing but real life problems happen and stuff falls through. Not blaming anyone in particular, the blame falls on me and me alone. But if you want to enlist and you want your toku stuff still posted on the site please join the Toku Time Discord and send me your work so I can post it. Why Discord? Because I like to keep everyone where I can reach them. Don’t ask for my Skype, Skype is just for loved ones/personal use nowadays.

I know the Discord link keeps dying even though I set it to never expire so I installed a Discord widget on the site. You can find it to the right. I still plan to make Minutemen merch. The stickers at RangerStop are hopefully just the start. I still want this to go on, maybe not as big as I’d hoped but at least I know I tried.

FUTURE REVIEWS/RIFFS?

I still aim to do the Kamen Rider Black triple review (Black/Black RX/Masked Rider back to back to back) and if we can reach that Patreon goal I’d love to do it. So if you’re not a Patron, every cent gets me closer to that goal and the reviews. Please donate to my Patreon if you can.

I’m planning some more Johnny Sokko riffs to purchase (Patrons will get them free) if me and my riffing cohorts can find the time to record all together. But expect those sometime. IS WHAT THE FAIZ OF THE WEEK EVER COMING BACK?

Oh yes. I’m waiting for something from a friend of mine before I can bring it back though. Trust me, it will be worth the wait. You can still submit clips in my Discord channel.
